Capcom and iam8bit have announced that they are teaming up to re-release a working SNES cartridge featuring Street Fighter 2. This version of the title will cost collectors a tidy $100 USD, but it comes with a few more bonuses outside of just another retro game cartridge. As is immediately apparent based on the photos, the game will be made available in two distinct looks to ensure that the re-released software won’t go without being noticed by friends and fellow fight aficionados alike. These styles include “Opaque Ryu Headband Red” and “Glow in the Dark Blanka Green,” of which the former will see 4,500 copies ship and the latter will be limited to 1,000.

An interesting thing to note is that iam8bit won’t be allowing gamers to select which version of the cartridge they’d like to own. Instead, the more limited “Glow in the Dark Blanka Green” will be subbed into orders at random, meaning that those after the more illusive version of the game will have roughly an 18% chance of scoring the item. At $100 a pop, that makes the entire process a bit of a gamble, but it also inserts a little bit of mystery and intrigue into the collector’s piece.
Given how limited the SNES Classic appears to be after preorders for the console sold out almost immediately upon going live, this product makes for a nice option for those that were hoping to showcase their fandom for the classic Nintendo platform. Those excited by the premise of being able to purchase classic video games once more may be interested to learn that Street Fighter 2 appears to be the first of a new “Legacy Cartridge Collection” from iam8bit, so there may be even more retro revivals in the works at the company.
On the other hand, Nintendo Switch owners simply looking to jump into some classic fighting game action sans a $100 expense may want to check out Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers to scratch that retro itch.
